Bedfordshire faced Middlesex in the first league match of the season at The Bedford Golf Club on Sunday 22nd May 2011.

The weather was bright and sunny, however the wind turned into a gale making it almost unplayable on the greens at certain points during the day. Following a good performance in the Eastern Counties Foursomes at Skegness last week we were hoping to take that form into the morning foursomes. Sadly that wasn't the case as we lost 2 ½ to 1 ½ and, frankly, we were lucky to take the half point. Matt Hill and Connor Boyle producing a Houdini act on 17 to win a hole from nowhere, it just shows you should never give up as you never know what will happen. The other point came from a good performance from a new partnership of Niall Johnston and Miguel Moitas winning 3&2

In the afternoon singles with the wind blowing at its hardest, we were looking very good in the early stages but despite good wins from Rob Sutton, Miguel Moitas, Gavin Samuels, and a half from Chris Spooner we were unable to find that extra one and a half points for the win. Most of the lost matches were close and could have gone either way but credit to Middlesex as they overcame the conditions well which unfortunately nullified our home advantage. Our thanks to The Bedford Golf Club who as usual looked after us extremely well, and to the officials and supporters who braved the extreme conditions in supporting both teams.
